Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. At the age of five when she left for Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Since the age of 6 Emma was aware that she wanted to be an actor and for several years, she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied singing dancing and acting. She had already performed in various Stagecoach as well as school plays before she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents via an Oxford teacher. After the eight auditions, the producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected as the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the big screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. The film broke records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and also was the highest-grossing production in the year 2001. Critics have praised both the film, as well as the performances given by three of the main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a popular British paper, praised her for her outstanding performance. Emma received the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for the Feature Film. The actress was nominated for five awards for her part in the film.
